Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

What can make chocolate chip cookies even better? Making it a chocolate chocolate chip cookie! This means that the chocolate chip cookie dough will be chocolate, so you get DOUBLE the amount of chocolate!

My easy double chocolate chip cookie recipe is for the big chocolate lovers. You will not be disappointed when you try these chocolate cookies because they are soft in the inside with a nice crispy edge.

Rich Chocolate Cookie Dough
The secret to a delicious chocolate chocolate chip cookie is to make sure the cookie dough has a lot of chocolate flavor. Some chocolate chip cookie recipe will call for you to use melted chocolate from chocolate bars or chocolate chips, but I learned that the secret to get the chocolate chip cookie dough to have a strong chocolate smell and flavor is by adding in quality cocoa powder.

Cocoa powder is the base for everything chocolate. It is formed when roasted cocoa beans or nibs are made into cocoa liquor, and all the fats are processed and removed. This leaves all the dried powder behind and make cocoa powder.  Chocolate bars are processed and include additives. Using quality cocoa powder instead of chocolate bars or chocolate chips will give you a rich chocolate taste.

Using Butter vs Oil in Cookies
This delicious recipe calls for the use of both butter and oil to make chocolate chocolate chip cookies for the best of both worlds! The reason why my recipe uses both butter and oil is because I wanted my cookies to have the nice slight smell of butter, but oil will keep the cookies in its shape. Butter and oil are both fats, but they react differently in baking.

Butter has a higher melting temperature than oil. Oil is in liquid form when it is in room temperature. This means that if your cookie recipe only uses butter, it will most likely have a flatter and spread out cookie because the butter slowly melts as it bakes in the oven. Butter being creamed with sugar for the cookie dough can also act as a leavening agent. As you cream the butter and sugar together, you’re adding air which allows that flaky texture when baked. When using oil for baking cookies, you will have a cookie that almost keeps its exact shape from cookie dough to baked cookie.

Add in your flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder to your wet mixture and mix well with a hand mixer or stand mixer. Make sure there are no clumps and that your mixture is smooth.

Step 4:
Add your chocolate chips into the bowl of batter, and fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula.

Step 5:
Use a spoon to portion out about 1.5-2 tablespoon of cookie batter, shape it to a round ball, and place it onto your un-greased non-stick cookie sheet. Space out the cookie dough at least one inch apart to prevent it from merging into each other when baked. Flatten the round cookie dough.
