I will be sharing with you how to make an oatmeal flour based crust for this chicken pot pie for dog recipe. The reason why I wanted to make oatmeal flour pie crust for the chicken pot pie instead of using regular all-purpose flour is because oatmeal has more nutrition, more fiber, and has less calories than compared to regular pie crust made of all-purpose flour. All-purpose flour is completely is safe for dogs, but just like humans, dogs need to watch their calorie and nutritional intake. One cup of raw uncooked all-purpose flour has 455 calories and 3.5 grams of dietary fiber. One cup of homemade oatmeal flour has 280 calories and 8 grams of dietary fiber.

Making homemade oat flour is super easy! All you need is quick cooking oats and a food processor or a powder blender to blend the oats into a flour texture.

I have two dogs; one is a miniature poodle and the other is a cairn terrier mix. I came up with the idea to make a dog friendly chicken pot pie recipe after my dogs were drooling while I was eating my chicken pot pie for lunch. They stared at me the whole time while I was eating, and as much as I wanted to share my food with them, I knew chicken pot pie has ingredients that are not safe for dogs, such as garlic and onion.

This recipe is quick to make for your dogs. The trick to making a quick chicken pot pie is to use precooked chicken. You can use cooked rotisserie chicken and shred it up as your chicken ingredient or you can use canned chicken breast. My recipe calls for canned chicken breast, and the brand I use is Member’s Mark from Sam’s Club. Canned chicken breast is a great ingredient to have in your pantry. You can store canned chicken breast and use it anytime you need. The texture of canned chicken breast is just like the chicken you boil at home but saves you so much time in the kitchen! You can use canned chicken for just about any recipe that calls for the use of chicken breast. Give canned chicken a try! You will love how much time it saves you.

If you prefer to use raw chicken for the chicken noodle soup recipe, you can boil 1 large chicken breast for about 15 minutes and cube or shred it after it’s fully cooked to use as the chicken ingredient in this recipe.
