Spoil your dog with dog friendly pizza! The ingredients used to make this pizza are all safe for dogs to eat. Dogs love a good meal, so why not make them some delicious, cheesy pizza for dog? Watch your dog gobble this pizza down! The recipe is a base for any pup friendly pizza and I encourage you to customize the toppings to what you like!
I will be sharing with you how to make a cauliflower pizza crust for this pizza for dog recipe. The reason why I wanted to make cauliflower crust for the pizza instead of using pizza dough is because cauliflower has more nutrition, more fiber, and has less calories than compared to regular pizza dough. Pizza dough is safe for dogs, but just like humans, dogs need to watch their calorie and nutritional intake. One cup of raw cauliflower has only 25 calories, zero fats, 2 grams of protein, 3 grams of dietary fiber, and is high in vitamin C. Vitamin C helps your dog’s immune system to fight off sickness so it is important to incorporate vitamin C into your dog’s diet.
Pizzas are so much fun because it can be topped with any toppings your heart desire! I have two dogs; one is a miniature poodle and the other is a cairn terrier mix. Both are huge fans of cheese, so I made sure to add plenty of mozzarella on their pizza. Mozzarella cheese gives you that extra oozy cheese pull when you take a slice. Mozzarella is completely safe for dogs so do not fear adding a nice amount to the pizza!
I recommend being conscious of how much salt your toppings are adding to the pizza. Just like humans, a diet high in salt can rise your dog’s blood pressure. Having a little cheat meal day for your dog in which they can eat this dog safe pizza should be fine. I decided to use pepperoni, turkey, and cheese as the topping for the dog pizza. I browned the ground turkey to fully cook it, but did not any seasoning or salt because I felt the pepperoni meat was already high in salt and did not want to add too much salt to the pizza. Pepperoni in small quantities for your dog once in a while is fine, but please do be conscious on how much pepperoni you’re putting on the pizza.
Pizza isn’t pizza without the pizza sauce! For this pizza recipe, I recommend you using only tomato paste because pizza sauce typically has garlic which is not safe for dogs. Be sure to check the label of your tomato paste to make sure there are no xylitol (unsafe sweetener for dogs).
Brighten up your pizza by topping it with basil as the final touch! Basil is safe for dogs to eat. It is an anti-inflammatory herb and has lots of antioxidants.
