Rice krispie treats are one of my favorite desserts to make because it is so quick and easy. It does not require you to use the oven because it is a no bake dessert! It is also an extremely versatile dessert. You can make all sorts of variations to the original rice krispie treat. They are so much fun to make!

I remember one of the very first desserts I ever learned how to make in my life was the original rice krispie treats. I was around 6 or 7 years old, my family had a phase where everyone craved for rice krispie treats all the time. My eldest sister and mom would make rice krispie treats for the whole family to enjoy during that time. I remember eating at least 3 treat bars a day for a few months! I decided to join my eldest sister in the kitchen one day while she was making rice krispie treats. She told me to grab a bag of marshmallows for her. I thought to myself, “why would we need marshmallows?” because I had never seen marshmallow in rice krispie treats. She told me we had to melt the marshmallow down and that would make the rice krispie cereal stick together. My mind was blown! As a little girl who never cooked or baked anything, I was extremely fascinated by the concept of melting down solid ingredients and making it into a completely different food. Back when I was a little kid, we did not have easy access to the internet and smart phones as kids nowadays do to watch all sorts of cooking videos online. Watching my sister teach me how to make rice krispie treats was one of the moments that sparked my joy in baking.

Getting little kids involved in making rice krispie treats is a fantastic way to bond. Kids can enjoy helping to dump in their favorite candies and help with smooshing down the rice krispie batter down into a pan. Getting to eat the rice krispie treats right away is immediate reward for children as they might not have patience to wait for a baked dessert to come out of the oven.
