Dried and canned dog food is filled with lots of preservatives to keep it from spoiling as it sits on the shelf of pet stores and grocery stores. Most of the time, they are also filled with grains and meat fillers. Dogs who have skin allergies will highly be sensitive to the proteins in some wheat products. This recipe does not use any wheat so it is a gluten free dog food recipe that is also a low carb dog food recipe!

Gluten is the term people use for the proteins found in wheat, barley and rye products. Rice is gluten free. People as well as animals can be sensitive to gluten. People and animals who are sensitive to gluten can get allergic reactions such as skin reactions like rashes or even reactions like stomach bloating.

My senior dog has a history of skin allergies. When I first adopted him, I noticed he would have dry skin patches and rashes all over his stomach. The vet suggested that I change his dog food, so I decided to make homemade dog food for him as often as I could. I am happy to say that ever since I incorporated homemade dog food into his diet, his skin rashes have gone down dramatically! I still feed him canned dog food which I purchase from the pet store from time to time; however, the bulk of his diet is homemade dog food. If your dog has skin allergies, give this recipe a try!
