I personally ate these dog treats after making a fresh batch for my fur babies to make sure it tasted good. Boy oh boy, I am not going to lie – this dog treat recipe is delicious! It tastes very similar to the cheddar Cheez-It crackers, but with way less sodium. The freshly baked homemade dog treat biscuit had a nice crust of toasted cheese. Do not even get me started on the smell of this dog treat. The aroma will make your dog drool!

My Fur Babies
I have two dogs of my own, which I call my fur babies. I grew up always wanting a dog, so after I graduated college, I decided that it was time for me to get a dog. I researched about dogs and types of breeds for months until I decided that I wanted a poodle.

Poodles are highly intelligent which are great dogs for first time owners. They pick things up fast; therefore, they’re easier to train and is more forgiving to someone who is not very familiar with dog training.

My very first dog is now 3 years old, and he’s the life of the party! I got him when he was an 8-week-old puppy. He’s a miniature poodle, and his parents were show dogs. He did not qualify as a show dog when he was first born because he had a little bend in his tail. I find that little bend super adorable even now as he’s an adult dog.

After two years of owning my miniature poodle, I decided that it would be a lot of fun to get a second dog so that my miniature poodle could have a friend. My husband and I were planning to get another poodle, but one day, while shopping at Pet Smart, we saw a booth full of dogs being shown that were up for adoption. All the dogs that were there were so adorable, and it broke my heart that they did not have a home. We adopted our second dog that same day from the adoption booth. We made sure that our miniature poodle got along with all the dogs before we settled on which one to adopt. We brought home a senior cairn terrier mix within a few hours of meeting him. Our senior cairn terrier mix is 13 and is still active and healthy.

Making Dog Treats at Home
We enjoy making homemade treats for our dogs whenever we can. It allows us to know exactly what is in the treat. Some dog treats have a lot of additives and it upsets our senior dog’s stomach. Try making dog treats from scratch with our recipe if your dog is a picky eater, has sensitive stomach or if you want to spoil your dog! You will see how surprisingly easy and fast it is!

Step 4:
Remove the dough from your bowl and place it onto a clean working space. I placed a non-stick silicon baking mat on my kitchen table to put my dough onto. Using your hands, kneed the dough a few times and get it into a ball. Use a rolling pin to roll and flatten out your dough to be 1/4″ thick.

Step 5:
Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes in your dough. I used an ordinary drinking cup as my cookie cutter. If you do not have a cookie cutter and do not want to use a drinking cup to cut out your cookies, you can just roll 1.5 tablespoons of dough into a ball and flatten it on your baking tray.

You can store the treats in a jar after it is fully cooled down. Do not store the cheddar cheese dog treat in the jar while hot because the heat will cause moisture to build up in the jar.
