This easy strawberry banana ice cream recipe will shock you how easy it is to make ice cream at home from scratch. It is packed with flavor and has the perfect amount of sweetness. This ice cream recipe is healthy because it has less fat then regular ice cream because will be using bananas as the main ice cream component instead of heavy cream. It is also a vegan ice cream because we will not be using any dairy products!
Making Ice Cream with a Blender
You will be using a powder blender for this easy ice cream recipe. I recommend using a quality powder blender instead of a regular blender. A regular blender may not be powerful enough to cream the frozen bananas into an ice cream texture, and may burn out the motor. Powder blenders are designed to maintain torque and cool temperature so it can handle tough ingredients. It is designed to give the you the smoothest texture when blending ingredients, so soups, smoothies, and ice cream. A brand of high performance powder blender that I recommend is the Vitamix. I own one myself. The Vitamix is easy to clean, gives the smoothest texture to anything I blend, and has great warranty. A more affordable powder blender is the Ninja Blender. I have not used it myself, but there are great reviews online.
If you do not have a powder blender, I would recommend you using a food processor.
What is Vegan?
Vegan is a dietary term that means a diet without the use of any by products from animals. Big examples of foods that vegans do not eat are dairy, eggs, meat, honey, gelatin, and whey. Vegan and vegetarian are often mistaken for each other. Vegetarian and vegan diets are similar that both avoid consuming meat; however, vegetarians still eat dairy and eggs. There are many reasons why a person may have a vegan diet. Some people prefer a vegan diet for health reason while others choose a vegan diet and lifestyle due to their personal views on the negative environmental effects of consuming animals and animal by products.
Base of Vegan Ice Cream
If you think of a typical ice cream, most often you will think of the use of milk and heavy cream. You would assume that without the use of dairy the ice cream would not be able to get a creamy texture or that it will be bland. That is not true at all! Yes, milk and heavy cream are the traditional base of most ice cream; however, you can get amazing ice cream recipes and ice cream products that are made without animal by products. There are many alternative ingredients that you can use to replace dairy in ice cream such as coconut milk, various nut milks like almond milk, oat milk, and fruits like banana, berries, and avocado.
Healthy Strawberry Banana Ice Cream, Blender Ice Cream Recipe
Serving Size = 1 quart
Ingredients:
4 bananas, ripe and frozen
1 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries
3/4 cup of almond milk
3 tablespoon of white granulated sugar
Step 1
Peel and cut ripe bananas into 1″ thick pieces. Freeze the bananas in the freezer until completely frozen. This will allow the powder blender or food processor to easily break down the banana.
Step 2
Add 4 cups of the frozen bananas, 1 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries, 3/4 cup of almond milk, and 3 tablespoons of white granulated sugar into your blender. Blend on high until mixture is well blended and is a soft serve ice cream texture. Be sure to pause and scrap down the sides of the blender in between blending to insure ice cream is well blended.
Step 3
Your ice cream is now ready to be eaten (if you like a very soft serve texture) or you can pour your ice cream mixture into an ice cream container and freeze for a stiffer ice cream texture.
If you do not have an ice cream container, any airtight container will work. Some plastic containers will get brittle in the freezer so check to make sure it is freezer safe.
