Canned Tuna for Tuna Salad
If you search for tuna salad recipes, you will most likely find that all call for the use of canned tuna instead of fresh tuna. The reason for this is because tuna salad rose in popularity around the time when canning meats and foods were booming. Canned tuna allowed people to quickly make food, such as tuna salad, without needing to cook the fish. Canned tuna also gives the tuna salad the distinct flaky texture.
Nutrition of Tuna
Tuna is packed with protein, low in calorie, and is high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are one of the essential nutrients that people need to consume. Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial to your diet because they help sustain the functions of your heart and provide element membranes to cells in your body like the brain and eyes. Tuna is a healthy protein option because three ounces of beef steak and three ounces of tuna have the same amount of protein; however, tuna has less saturated fat. Experts say that having a diet high in saturated fat can be unhealthy because it can lead to heart disease. This is because saturated fats increase your cholesterol which can block your arteries and make it difficult for your heart to function.
